- Biography
My passion includes arts in education, media literacy and understanding youth culture. For over 10 years I have served as an innovative educator, supporting students, parents and teachers locally and nationally and internationally using literacy and social studies across content areas.
I have presented my teacher research and practice at forums such as the University of Pennsylvania’s Ethnography Forum, National Writing Project’s Urban Sites Conference, Yale University’s Common Ground Publication, Temple University’s Media Education Lab, Depaul University’s National Endowment of the Humanities Poetry Seminar and the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers – Health and Welfare Program for Teachers Conference.
Grants awarded, include the 2007-2008 Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Art Commentary grant; and in 2003 an United States- Newly Independent States Fellow for Excellence in Teaching English and American Studies International Russian Teacher Exchange program.
I collaborate with and serve a leadership role on various teacher networks and arts organizations. I am a teacher representative and city representative for Teachers’ Institute of Philadelphia (TIP), and Yale National Initiative (YNIT), respectively. I also serve on the advisory council for the Philadelphia Arts and Education Partnership; the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Literary Committee and I have served on the steering committee of the Philadelphia Writing Project.
I own and operate SriiiConsulting a -boutique style - social entrepreneurial service company that provides grant and small business consulting on a case by case basis. I focus on education and training markets and provide management services to Outlook Productions, LLC, a multi-media service provider.
I received my graduate degree in Education from Temple University(98), earned a MBA in Marketing from Atlanta University Graduate School of Business (88), and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science from Cheyney State University of Pennsylvania(86). Prior to teaching I served as a Peace Corps volunteer and ran an information service and training company in Botswana, Africa. My wife and 3 sons were all born in Botswana.
