The holidays are upon us, and your mind is elsewhere. But save the evening of Tuesday, January 5. Philly Net Tuesday is planning a session to help approach the new year with a fresh perspective.
On our last Net Tuesday (December 1), we held the Philly Net Tuesday Book UNclub at Robin’s Bookstore. The idea was pretty straightforward… We would discuss books in Net Tuesday’s scope of interest: social networking/media, nonprofit technology and social change. (That’s the “biblio” part.) And we would use the style of an unconference, in which participants set their own agenda. (That’s the “social” part.) As far as any of us knew, this wasn’t really done before. (And that’s the “experiment” part.)
We were fortunate that Lindsay Tabas video recorded parts of the evening (and also led one of the book discussions). She put together a really great, short piece that nicely captures the spirit of the evening. Thank you, Lindsay!
Tuesday, October 6: We’re planning an interactive discussion with some exciting case studies of how nonprofits and grassroots community groups are using the social web — networks like Facebook and media like YouTube — to inspire leadership among their supporters and deepen their commitment to the cause.
These days there are so many portals to use to raise money online for your non-profit. How do you choose which one(s) to be on? Does maintaining them take away from your other online efforts (e-news, blog, etc.)? Which ones have you be successful on?
Well, about 20 folks — both new and “old” — attended and participated in our experimental format, a kind of “speed brainstorming”. Thomas Taylor graciously took notes, which I made some minor clarification edits to, and here they are. Thanks to everybody who participated. It was a unique mix of people and a very interesting and provocative discussion.
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of this new website, at the easy-to-remember address of PhillyNetSquared.org! We still have some bugs to work out, but we think this will be a major improvement and serve as the framework upon which to build a dynamic community around social change and the social web. Have an idea for this site? Join us at next week’s Net Tuesday and share your ideas!
